Welcome to my garden! My name is Marie Ann Robinson and I live on a beautiful prairie in South Dakota. Please click on the 'About Us' tab above to read about how I create my art from flowers, leaves, petals, vegetables, fruits and roots. And soon I will be adding a 'Work In Progress' section to that page. I will add photos and explanations of how I created one of my artworks.
I now have my art showing in two local galleries:
Expressions Gallery in Watertown, SD
Beautiful Boutique in Watertown, SD
And if you are interested in seeing my art that has won in recent competitions please scroll down on this page. You'll even find a video link to a South Dakota Public TV segment on my art.

Now you can see how it's done!
I now have a blog where I show a 'Work in Progress'. Please click on the link for the blog to see how I created 'Mt. Rushmore' and 'Field of Poppies':
THIS ONE TOOK A THIRD PLACE RIBBON AT THE 2011 PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL FLOWER SHOW
This year's show theme was 'Springtime in Paris'. The category that I entered was 'The Louvre'. This pressed flower art was inspired by Claude Monet's painting, 'Field of Poppies'. My challenge with this one was in creating 'brush stokes' from petals and leaves in an impressionistic style. Sure had a lot of fun with this one...and lots of little tiny bits of plant material that clung to me and then flew all over my studio! I blame the dry, static air...couldn't be the messy artist!
MADE IT INTO THE 'SOUTH DAKOTA' MAGAZINE FOR A SECOND TIME THIS YEAR
I was thrilled with the first article they did about my 'Mt. Rushmore' piece in the May/June issue...now I am in an article in the November/December issue! Below you will see the page where John Andrews talks about my art. This was part of an article about people along Hwy 20. What a year this has been for me...I am still pinching myself!
SOUTH DAKOTA PUBLIC BROADCASTING FEATURED ME IN A SEGMENT OF 'DAKOTA LIFE'
My husband, Loren, emailed SDPB about my art 5-6 years ago when we lived on the farm in Clark, SD...back in the days when I had 12 gardens and a huge vegetable garden! Can't imagine taking care of all that today! But he never got a response so he just forgot about it. Seems that every year they go over all the suggestions sent in and decide on who to feature that year...well I made it in this year!! Here is a link to my segment of the show:
GREAT DAY AT THE WATERTOWN ART FESTIVAL
Best show ever for me!! I sold 3 of my originals and 6 prints! The originals that sold are:
'Front Porch of Life'
'Brook in the Woods'
'Calm Morning on the Slough'
I sold 3 prints of 'Front Porch of Life' during the first couple of hours of the show. So I am really happy that I am now able to offer prints. Herb Brown, Goss Graphics, did a wonderful job of scanning and printing these fine art prints...also have a few giclee prints. And he is such a nice fellow to work with. When I told him I sold all of those prints he took time out of his weekend to go to his shop and make more for me...what a guy! I had people who were looking at and touching these prints to see if they were originals! Herb did a great job of capturing the depth and color. So please feel free to check out the prints. You'll find these by clicking on the 'Services-2' tab above and then scroll down to the bottom.
SOUTH DAKOTA MAGAZINE ARTICLE
My friends at the Clark Flower and Gift Shop in Clark, SD, where I used to work contacted the magazine (they sell it in their shop) and told them about my work. Katie Hunhoff at the magazine contacted me about doing this article...needless to say, I was thrilled! It's in the May/June 2010 issue.
Thanks so much, Linda and Melony, for doing this for me. Your support has given me so much encouragement!
PHILADELPHIA FLOWER SHOW - 2010 AWARDS
This year I sent in two entries to the Philadelphia International Flower Show, held February 28 - March 7, 2010. The theme for this year's show was 'Passport to the World.' I am very happy with how they did! This one took the 3rd Place Ribbon in its category:
The sky is made from delphinium petals. The faces and rocks are made of the underside of the leaf from the white poplar tree and gray backed thistle and weeds from our rural property. Japanese painted fern pieces were used to make the trees.
This one took the 1st Place Ribbon in its category:
The walls and floor are made from day lily leaves that I picked in the fall after they were brown and dried. The black in the window is made from petals of a very dark burgundy hollyhock that presses almost black. The white window frame and window box are made from the underside of the leaf from the white poplar. The gray in the watering can is from this same tree but the leaf is younger. The gloves are made of fall leaves. The window box contains oregano blooms, white alyssum, purple candytuft and the vines are creeping thyme with bachelor button petals.
PS This one also took First Place in the 2010 Watertown Art and Craft Show in the Mixed Media category. And it was on display at the Redlin Art Center during the month of June, along with artwork by all the other artists that participated in this show.
PHILADELPHIA FLOWER SHOW - 2009 AWARD
My 'Italian Plate' entry in the Philadelphia Flower Show, March 1 - 8, 2009 took the first place ribbon in its class! I am thrilled! This show is the largest flower show in the US and was visited by 251,000 people this year. Next year I hope to be there to see the show as well as enter my work again. The theme this year was 'Bella Italia' and the exhibits were just amazing!
Here's a photo of my plate: 'Tuscan Wine at Sunset'
I attended the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild 2008 Conference in Anaheim, CA from June 21 to June 23...and what an inspiring conference it was! The best part was meeting all my 'petal pals' from the internet message board that we use to talk and learn from on our guild website, www.wwpfg.org. I encourage you to go to this website and click on '2008 Conference' to see all the unique and beautiful pressed flower art in all three categories. There were attendees there from the US, UK, China, Japan, Taiwan, Nepal, Canada and others I am probably forgetting. And I was honored with a third place ribbon in the 'Mini Bouquet' category for my piece entitled 'Peonies in Blue Vase' (seen below). The next conference will be in 2010 in China...better start saving my pennies!
