
This is a 5 x 7 piece matted for an 8 x 10 frame of medium dark oak. It is titled 'Empty Nest'. The background is made of poinsettia leaves and covered in sanwa tissue. The bluebird house is made of amarylis leaves. The leaves are from a hybrid hybiscus. Also included are coral bells, oregano blooms and astilbe leaves.

'Hummingbirds in my Garden' is an 8" x 10" piece that is now double matted and framed in a lovely carved oak 11" x 14" frame. The flowers are veronica and bee balm. The hummingbirds are created from gerbera, delphinium and sunflower petals. The bellies are from the silk from the milkweed pod. I was inspired to do this one when the hummers paid a visit to my garden this summer...they just past through and don't stay long, so I was thrilled to find them!
This one is sealed and conservation glass is used.

South Dakota Series

'Waiting for Spring' is 9"x9" with a 2" double mat of dark green and beige. The frame is black. In this one I used the techniques that I learned in Irina Orlova's wonderful online class through the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild. Irina is a master artist who represents the St. Petersburg School of Oshibana in Russia. We are all so lucky to receive her valuable instruction! The sky is made of corn husk and the snow is made of onion skin. The darkest parts of the tree is banana peel and the rest are leaves and grasses collected at various stages and pressed. For the male pheasant I have use bits of iris petals, purple pansy and alsromeria petals for the breast. This piece placed as a 'Finalist' in the 2011 Koren Pressed Flower Art Competition and will be on display in Korea until later this year.

'Mt. Rushmore' is 9" x 9" and is double matted in taupe and brown. The frame is 2 1/2 " wide and made of a beautiful brown, mottled wood. This piece took the Third Place Ribbon at the Philadelphia International Flower Show in 2010. The sky is made of blue and white delphinium petals. The faces and stones are made of the leaves of the white poplar tree and silver/gray backed leaves of weeds. The pines are made of Japanese painted fern.

'Front Porch of Life' is 11" x 8". It is double matted in taupe and brown and framed in a beautiful 2 1/2" wide mottled, brown frame. This one took First Place at the Philadelphia International Flower Show in 2010. The walls and floor are made of fall day lily leaves. The window panes are made of black hibiscus petals. White poplar leaves are used for the window frames, window box and the watering can. Flowers in the window box are oregano blooms, alyssum, candytuft, mother of thyme sprigs and bachelor button petals. The gloves are made of fall leaves.

Inspired by Claude Monet's 'Field of Poppies' is 10 X 8 and double matted in brown and taupe. It is framed in a beautiful 2 1/2 inch mottled brown frame. This one took a Third Place Ribbon at the 2011 Philadelphia International Flower Show. For the sky I used white poplar leaves. The ocean in the distance is created with blue delphinium petals. The trees in the distance are created from the backsides of various leaves. Fall leaves are used for the trees in the mid ground. The houses are made of white poplar and fall leaves. For the poppy field I used bits of torn or cut orange and yellow cosmos and bits of gray and green leaves. And the grasses in the front are various green and yellow leaves.
